About
Tom K. Dyer is a film director specializing in documentary, branded content, and commercial work.
My focus is working with brands that want their films to do more than just look good. The work should communicate something meaningful, connect with the right people, and serve the story at its center.
I’m based in Nashville, Tennessee, and work on-location around the U.S. and internationally.
Background and Experience
My career started in music and audio, which still shapes the way I think about film. Rhythm, tone, timing, and energy. A good film is not just a collection of beautiful images. It has to move the right way and feel like it belongs to the story.
With over 15 years of experience as a director, I’ve directed films for brands and nonprofits, traveled around the world for commercial and documentary projects, and worked across formats including television commercials, short films, feature-length documentaries, online content, fundraising stories, and more.
A Purpose-First Process
My process starts before we get too far into the details. It begins by defining what we’re making, why we’re making it, who needs to see it, and what they should feel, understand, or remember when it’s over.
From there, the creative choices have somewhere to come from. The tone, pacing, visuals, interviews, performances, and details can all start working toward the same purpose.
Creative Collaboration
The best work comes from real collaboration. Some clients and creative teams want to be closely involved. Others want to hand off the idea and trust me to shape it. Either way, my job is to catch the vision, bring a clear creative point of view, and help turn the idea into something focused and effective.
