“From Grain to Glass,” a short film about Leiper’s Fork Distillery, was the kind of project I’m always looking for: an authentic story about a small company with a real craft, and the people who bring it to life.
It’s a story-driven piece about a company doing things the right way. They make whiskey, so there is already a lot to work with: craft, process, history, patience, place, and a story behind the product.
The goal was to make a film that helped people understand the brand and feel more connected to it. Leiper’s Fork already had people who cared about what they were doing. The film gave those people something deeper to connect with, while also helping new people understand what made the distillery worth paying attention to.
My process started with the people closest to the brand. I spent time with the team at Leiper’s Fork to understand what they needed the piece to do, then worked through pre-interviews with the marketing team and the owner to find the story we were going to tell and how we were going to tell it.
From there, the work became about creating a visual direction that supported the story without turning it into a history lesson or a sales pitch. I wanted to put their process and philosophy on display in a way that felt natural, specific, and interesting to watch.
